CAMP HORSES: Straight from Summer Paradise to Senseless Slaughter

America’s kids have been going to summer camps with horses for decades. The kids learn about the horses and the horses have a great time helping these ‘summer camp kids’ learn to ride — something that often stays with both of them for a lifetime.

These ‘camp programs’ often hide a dark and gruesome secret: Thousands of these amazing, sweet and gentle horses — so sound they’re depended upon for their time tested and ‘perfect’ personalities — are sent to slaughter immediately after the last bus has left the camp, destined for an horrific death.

And next year — another load of America’s best horses will experience the same summer excursions — only to meet the same fate as their predecessors.

The reason, of course, is money. Camp facilitators will tell you the horses are too expensive to keep during the winter so they’re immediately shipped to slaughter to save the camp administrators the added expense of their keepbut the reality is that people no longer care how much pain or suffering they inflict when the financial benefits of killing come into play.

Perhaps the strangest cut of all is that people send their kids to these camps to learn about horses: riding them, connecting with them, caring for them, loving them. Sometimes these kids are oblivious to the fate of the horses they’ve come to know — but sometimes they learn the truth: that they’re disposed of in the most horrific ways because they’re owned by the camps that utilize them and not the kids that are encouraged to care.

In today’s fast paced and busy world, the truth often gets lost in the fray — along with these kind and gentle horses, doing their best to win the affection of humans but forever at their mercy, as well.

We at HOOFPRINTS.ORG believe this is a travesty and we intend to ‘lift the lid’ on this horrific practice and the camps that so willfully and heartlessly destroy the lives of these innocent beings as carelessly as they would toss the remainder of a meal into a dumpster. They don’t seen to now or care how this inhumane practice fosters a level of disconnection and denies the kids at the camp the opportunity to obtain these horses for their own — because the practice is hidden from view and the animals are simply ‘disappeared’ from view, the suffering of these animals is essentially beyond the purview of the very people most likely to assist them.

Let’s see if, together, we might find ways to change that. They’re lives, literally, depend on it.
