No horse deserves to go to slaughter but had rescue not stepped in, both parents and this gorgeous foal would not be here today. This beautiful foal was the product of two rescue horses, both bound for slaughter and rescued in the nick of time, preventing them from becoming just another casualty in the statistical nightmare that is today’s ‘slaughter pipeline’.
Rescue entities are constantly at war with those who profess to care for America’s wild horses and their young as well as the thousands of horses unceremoniously abandoned by their owners and the racing industry which is one of the main purveyors of horses in this country — an ‘industry’ unto itself that routinely breeds, races and then sends to slaughter hundreds of thousands of horses every year.
There are many people who want to help but have no idea where to begin. We’re here for them. We need sanctuaries throughout the United States to provide permanent homes for these magnificent beings — safe landings for those who have years left to live and no home in which to live them.
